Clearly at this point, Verbling may not put language schools out of business but they are the digital handwriting on the wall. Verbling offers something many learners in at least 11 different languages should consider using, the opportunity to speak.
All classes at Verbling are entirely free points out Co-founder Mikael Bernstein. Speaking with another is free to anyone age 13 or over. It is accomplished through a sophisticated lotto chat format that matches speakers to languages.
According to Verbling, learners are matched with native speakers in one-to-one video chats. They offer English, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, and Russian chats. You can visit Verbling.com here.
This is in contrast to Verbling’s English Language Classes, which are also entirely free but have hand picked educators for instruction. These classes are structured at different languages levels and restricted to 9 participants.
As Co-founder Bernstein points out these “Classes are so popular that they often fill up very fast though, so Verbling Premium simply guarantees you a seat in advance.” Verbling Premium is monthly fee-based. And one is able to end their contract at anytime though contracts run month to month.
But even Verbling Premium does not restrict the number of courses. Bernstein adds, “You can definitely take multiple classes (and languages). Verbling premium does not restrict you from taking other classes.”
Meanwhile those wanting to but unable to participate are still able as viewers to watch live or recorded classes. Viewers, explains Verbling’s Help, are also able to participate in class text chats.
Consider for a moment the possibility to prescreen classes and teachers you are interested in. Imagine getting the chance to review language levels and classes freely without making a commitment, paying or participating. That’s the Digital Handwriting on the Wall.
Verbling does indicate there is a protocol to participate in their English Language Classes. Participants are asked to download the Google Hangouts plugin. Google’s requirement is for students being over age 18.
Those from our Berlin classes who have participated recommend Verbling. It’s a language learning model that is different, transparent, and open to viewers and the viewed. Do let me know your experience. Your choice.
